Site updates

Postby RSV3 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 12:29 am

A lot of the features of this site are still in development, so don't be surprised if some of them keep changing and/or are not working. Hopefully I will start adding content here within the next week. If you encounter an error in the site, please post it in this forum or pm me.

It is intended to display as a moderate (2) subtype in your sociotype profile.

I've just added in a small section to the community page which shows recent updates that people have made. I'm now going to be working on the following projects in no particular order:

-adding in a chat module
-adding in a section where you can nominate famous people to be typed and then members will be able to vote on a type like they can do now with other members.

I also need to add in some type descriptions. Right now I'm thinking of using the wikisocion descriptions since (1) they are fairly good, and (2) the copyright issues are minimal. Writing my own descriptions would take significant amount of time and would undoubtedly be subpar to the descriptions available under public license (i.e., most wiki content) available on the internet. I'm also happy to host in the theory section any content written by other members with their permission.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding any of these issues, let me know.

The wiki descriptions are difficult to understand for beginners who don't know anything about functions or elements or values.
An' I says "Stan, you prolly right."

Hmm, good point. I will have separate pages specifically discussing functions and elements that beginners can read about, but what would you suggest would be good introductory material for each sociotype?

please note that the wswiki descriptions are also publicly available and similarly copylefted as the wikisocion descriptions if you wish to use those instead of or in addition to the wikisocion ones.

however, also note that in both cases the descriptive content may change in perpetuity based on the wiki format, thus a hyperlink to either or both sources may be more appropriate.

I will keep that in mind; whatever I end up doing, I'll probably link to both sets of descriptions.

I've added in chat functionality. You can access a simplified version of the program on any of the forum pages or the full version at http://www.sociotype.com/forums/chat/. I will probably add a link to this at some point in the future.

In a few weeks, I'm going to start redesigning most of the site. Changes that I'm planning on making include the following:

+Redesigning the sociotype test, to wit:
-adding substantially more questions (approx. 100) while at the same time making each individual question much shorter and simpler.
-Including a section asking objective questions (i.e., questions to which the answer does not depend on the test-taker's subjective view of him/herself).

+Redesigning the intertype component:
-simplifying the questions (e.g., shortening their length) and adding more overall questions

+displaying the intertype relationships between members

+fix miscellaneous bugs

+Adding more content

+improving the aesthetics and UI of the site.

A lot of the changes will be behind-the-scenes so to speak, cleaning up the code so that it is easier to maintain and update. I'm estimating this will take 3-4 months. I'm open to any suggestions/advice anyone has regarding improvements to the site, and I am already taking many previous suggestions (made here and elsewhere) into consideration. I'm particularly interested in adding specific questions to either the intertype test or sociotype test that people believe would be probative in achieving either test's goal. I will probably post both tests' questions somewhere on the site to get feedback before actually implementing them.
